The Divine Antidote to the Fear Response

“Miracles are merely the translation of denial into truth.”
A Course in Miracles, OrEd.Tx.11.14

“The Lord is with you, but you know it not. Yet your Redeemer liveth and abideth in you in the peace out of which He was created.  Would you not exchange this awareness for the awareness of your fear?”
ACIM, OrEd.Tx.11.22

Do you ever find yourself frustrated by emotional triggers? If you’re like me, you could be going about your life feeling pretty good and then, “Bam!” out of the blue, something crosses your path that just takes the joy out of the rest of your day. It could be a random and unexpected bill, some health issue, something someone said or didn’t say, or some problem with a child or a family member. One minute you’re feeling fine, and the next minute, you just feel “ugh”.

Perhaps the trigger creates anxiety, obsessive worry or analyzing, or just an internal heavy feeling…depression even.

The last time this happened to me, I was doing my marketing homework on Facebook. By this, I mean, reaching out to all social media groups who might find my writings inviting. This, by the way, is a surefire way to invite any and all triggers of fear and self-doubt. After all, you’re not only exposing your vulnerabilities to friends and family, now you’re putting it out there to thousands!

So I shared some spiritual reflections on the group page of one of my favorite authors. I thought, “truly, this will be well received. “ I had taken a chance and shared some heartfelt words that I thought would resonate with other readers.

This was no easy task for me as I’ve tended to avoid social media largely because it feels a little too vulnerable for the introverted side of me. You might imagine then how much my heart tanked when I opened my notifications to discover a message saying the site administrators had denied my post. (a little too religious?) What?! I sat in disbelief. Then fear and self-doubt threatened to wash in like a tidal wave. I whispered to God through my pain, “I could really use a little help right now.”

Help Always Comes if you trust and listen for it……

Since I was also already in the midst of my online marketing research, I had spent the morning clicking on all sorts of topics and websites related to my book. The next site that caught my eye read, “Remember-to-breathe.”

Yes! I clearly needed that!

Perhaps this was the response to my quiet cry for help. I clicked on it and came upon the answer I needed. It was information compiled from a speaker, Daniel Siegel, I had heard years before at a conference. It was a beautifully crafted website helping all to understand the link between breathing and basically unlocking the triggers of the brain that release the fight or flight response. While I share this information with clients on a regular basis, the site reminded me that the trauma response was what this perceived rejection had triggered within me.

I moved quickly to one of their breathing exercises and soon found myself reclaiming my peace.

Once back at my core state of peace, I marveled at how quickly help had come. And then I started to consider how often the Messages of Love I’ve been receiving over and over, have told me to,

“Just breathe with Me. Just rest here with Me. Join Me in our shared breath.”

And then it hit me. , in its infinite wisdom, created the ultimate antidote within us to release us from all fear.

You see, the trauma response, or what many call the fight or flight response, is triggered by a perceived danger (real or imagined) that then fires neurons within the brain, which signal a chain reaction throughout the body. We tense up, our breathing becomes shallow and labored, and adrenaline begins rushing through our system.

As simple as it sounds, returning to the breath for a sustained period and letting the mind be still, sends a message to the brain that unlocks all of the reaction responses and soon calms the central nervous system back to a state of peace.

Just Breathe with Me.

It’s so simple, and yet Divine Love is giving us the antidote to free us from all fear.

And here’s another thing I’ve noticed….when I return to my breathing and my awareness of my shared breath with Love Itself, when my mind becomes still of all the conditioned thinking….then a space opens up…and in that space; insights, impulses, and revelations come to me that I otherwise would miss.

It feels like I’m tuning into a new state of awareness that opens up Divinely Inspired possibilities.

Here’s the Message of Love I received a week before this all unfolded. Who knew I would need it so desperately only a few days later. I guess Divine Love knew 😉

As you breathe with Me
You join with Me.
As you join with Me
You see with Me.
You allow Me to show you
What otherwise you would not see.
In breathing with Me
And joining with Me
Then do you elevate your energy and thus your ability
to enter awareness of the Eternal
~of Pure Love~
of Pure Possibility
Simply Breathe with Me
And you will see.

~Love Itself

Learning to stop denying the truth of God’s presence and power, which is as near as our breath in every moment, feels like the hardest truth we’ve ever had to accept.  Deep in our core, we cling to the belief that life should be hard, that we must figure it out alone, and that we are alone.

I’m tired of the insanity of my own denial, which only leads to fear. It’s definitely not yielding the peace and joy I most desire. From this point on, I choose to stay ever focused on the breath I share with . In place of all my worry and doubt, I want to Breathe with Divine Love Itself.

We are not alone. And a Power far greater than our own wants to show us.

Will you just breathe….here with Me?
